What’s really stopping companies from hiring international STEM talent?
At a recent roundtable hosted by Employed.world and co-sponsored by Seefar Foundation, hiring managers and startup leaders came together in #Berlin to discuss the real barriers to recruiting non-EU talent.
The conversation surfaced key challenges employers face, including:
• Navigating visa and relocation processes
• Managing financial and operational costs
• Understanding how to safely access international talent pools
These insights are critical for shaping programmes like SUSTAIN, which aims to provide a cost-shared international recruitment pathway connecting employers in #Germany and Ireland with skilled #STEM professionals from #Nigeria.

💬 “Accessing global talent is essential for startups, but the process can feel complex and risky. Structured programmes like #SUSTAIN could make it far more accessible for companies like ours.” - Roundtable participant
The feedback gathered will directly inform programme design, employer support services, and risk-mitigation strategies as #SUSTAIN continues to develop practical solutions for international hiring.
